Senior Scientist
Nick Chambers is a seasoned fisheries scientist and lifelong advocate for wild rivers and native fish. Raised along Oregon’s Rogue River, Nick developed a deep love for aquatic ecosystems early in life. His journey through the world of fisheries took him from Northern California to Alaska, where he immersed himself in the natural rhythms of anadromous fish runs, exploring watersheds by foot, snorkel, and whitewater kayak.
Nick’s academic pursuit led him to Oregon State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in fisheries in 2008. His career in fisheries science saw him travel extensively for seasonal work with a brief period in the fly-fishing industry. In 2015, he joined Trout Unlimited’s Wild Steelhead Initiative. There, Nick honed his skills in policy and advocacy work advancing protections for wild fish.
Most recently, Nick completed a Masters degree at the University of Washington’s School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences. His research examined the dispersal of juvenile steelhead and seeks to refine management approaches by incorporating early-life movement and competition.
Nick brings a blend of field experience, scientific rigor, and unrelenting dedication to the protection of wild steelhead. He’s thrilled to join The Conservation Angler as Senior Scientist and continue the fight to preserve anadromous fish for current and future generations.
