ABOUT

We are anglers, scientists, truth tellers, and legal advocates fiercely committed to wild steelhead and salmon survival. Our work is grounded in evidence, unbeholden to politics, driven by accountability, and fueled by a deep connection to the rivers we fight to protect.
TCA's Unique Proposition
Across the Pacific Rim, countless organizations are working to conserve salmon and steelhead. Billions of dollars have been spent on habitat restoration and policy advocacy. Yet, wild populations continue to decline. Why? While habitat is essential, it is not enough. The hard truth is that overharvest, hatcheries, and dams have robbed wild fish of their diversity, and without diversity, even the best habitat cannot ensure survival.

This is where TCA stands apart.

We are anglers, not bureaucrats – independent, uncompromised, and free from commercial or agency influence.
  • Expertise
We are guided by world-renowned salmon scientists with decades of cutting-edge research and field expertise.
  • Science-Driven
We are a mission-driven think tank advancing bold, science-based strategies that challenge the status quo and drive real solutions for recovering wild steelhead and salmon.
  • Discerning
We are educators and litigators – empowering anglers with knowledge and standing ready to fight in court when conservation demands it.
A Winning Combination
Our independence allows us to focus on what matters most: rebuilding the diversity that wild steelhead and salmon need to adapt and thrive in a changing world.

  • Who We Are
First and foremost, WE ARE ANGLERS; fishermen with a deep connection to wild steelhead and salmon and the waters they inhabit. Working for collective decades in salmonid science, WE ARE ALSO EXPERTS on what these fish need to recover and survive. We’ve seen what measures truly work and, even more telling, what’s a waste of precious resources.
  • What We Do
The Conservation Angler fights the battles that matter — letting science guide the best path for wild steelhead/salmon recovery and protection, educating the public and holding governments accountable for their failures and reckless oversights. We also arm anglers with the best available science to empower them to be effective advocates in the fight to save wild fish.
  • Why We Care
As a lean, no-nonsense nonprofit, we’re the only wild fish organization led by a renowned salmonid scientist who is trusted to deliver the straight scoop on the best available science. We cut through the noise to ensure that anglers and the public receive objective information on what wild fish need to survive.
  • Unrelenting Drive
Think of us as well-read mercenaries and salmonid policy think tank unafraid to challenge the status quo. We are scientists fighting a war to save wild fish. We don’t spend time bickering on social media and seek neither recognition nor adoration. Instead, we focus on identifying threats, explaining the sometimes-difficult truths, crafting scientific strategies, and striking — often before those harming wild fish ever see us coming. And when the fight is done, we’re back on the water searching for the fish that define our lives.
